Damascene steel is produced by repeatedly forging, folding and re-forging several strips of steel with different properties, thus creating a characteristic pattern that has tens to hundreds of layers. The core of the steel is one of the best rated steels, VG-10. Highly abrasion resistant stainless steel.

When steel is used as the core and is stacked with another type of steel, the best knife properties are achieved when the combination of the two steels makes them strong, hard, sufficiently flexible and corrosion resistant at the same time.
